On Honda and McLaren

Interview with Honda's Motorsport chief Yasuhisa Arai.

Quote:

Q: Can you talk us through your schedule up to the point when power unit and chassis will finally become one?

YA: In the next couple of weeks we will run simulations and at the beginning of next year we will start to run on the track - very likely at Jerez. That will very likely be the first time to show the whole car, the Honda engine and the McLaren chassis - the Honda McLaren.
Quote:

Q: So McLaren will be your exclusive partner for 2015. But what about beyond that?

YA: Yes, in 2015 we don't have the plan to supply any team other than McLaren. In 2016 or after, if some teams or partners ask us to supply them too, we will take a look at that situation. But even in 2016 McLaren will be our main partner in F1. And even if we supply other teams from 2016 onwards our main focus will always be to win - to make the engine better through more data - and not necessarily to look at a return on investment. If you win that comes automatically.

Speaking of Honda and McLaren, Honda just showed the new motivation they plan to stuff in the back of the Mac next year....

That engine looks amazing, we need to see more of it, i'd like to see it without the plenum's just out of curiosity.

I'd like to know who's going to drive for them next year. Will Button be back? Its expected the kid will stay as he's supposed to be the future... no clue.

Also, extremely curious what this means for McLarens road cars actually and Honda's as well...

I think this may mean more for Honda, or maybe nothing at all. They have some other race cars that have to translate into something on a production level.

Are you wondering if this engine is going to make an appearance in a road car as well?

Does that happen often or are most race engines too powerful for legal use on the road?

I don't see this engine ending up in a production vehicle, there might be tech from it that they take use to some extent in some road car engines.
