Porsche Developing Mclaren 650s Fighter

Porsche is developing a quad-turbo, flat-eight Porsche exotic car to rival the Ferrari 458 Italia, Mclaren 650s and all that fall within this supercar segment. Very little known about it for now, just know that it will be epic and more exciting to see go head-to-head with a Mclaren than a Ferrari 458.

How does a quad-turbo, flat-eight Porsche exotic sound to you?

According to a recent report, the German automaker is working on its own competitor to the Ferrari 458 that could resemble the 918 Spyder in styling. In prototype form, the new sports car is rumored to be sporting a flat-eight engine displacing about four liters with four turbos to give it around 600 hp. The forced induction powerplant likely has over 400 lb-ft of torque.

The recent fire issues with the Porsche 911 GT3 hinted that the German automaker might have found the threshold of performance with its flat-six powerplants. As a result, Porsche could be facing the idea that its six-cylinder engines won’t be capable of competing with Ferrari’s V8s. It is believed that the company is developing a new family of engines, both turbocharged and naturally aspirated, that will come in four-, six- and eight-cylinder configurations. The next-generation Porsche Boxster and Cayman are expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mill.

WOW, a boxer 8 is going to be one MASSIVE engine. Quad turbos? REALLY, or I wonder if its a bit of marketing speak, like BMW's Twin SCroll (or is it Twin power?) basically sequential Twinturbo but they're one turbo...

This sounds incredible, and it also almost seems like they would have come out with something like this sooner. Even though there is now minimal information on this, it doesn't mean it will be coming out any time soon. How many years will we have to wait to see this?

They should have, but I guess seeing how the supercar industry is moving they also want a piece of what's going on and don't just want to have a single supercar.

I like this, always been a porsche fan and this will be interesting.

Porsche never had to do anything bigger becasue the flat 6 was bullet proof, until now that is. The spat of GT3 fires and snapping conrods seems to of found the limit of the Flat 6, its time to get a new weapon.

With the way that the supercar industry has been doing really well lately, I think it makes total sense that Porsche is trying to get in to this market. Huge prices, huge margins, and great at developing your brand and turning heads. It is also cool that Porsche would expand upmarket with this since they have been moving down market over the past while.

I'm actually a little surprised they didnt continue with the Hybrid motif, unless it was too cost prohibitive... They're building quite the solid system if anyone watched Le Mans you'll know what I'm talking about!
