rwdftw i dont think mclaren has the kind of r&d funds to do an SUV

Mr.Big I mean Ferrari is doing it, so its not totally outside the realm of possibilities. I'm glad that they decided against it in the end. Most of the time I don't accept arguments about brand dilution, but in this case I think that a McLaren SUV would definitely contribute to a dilution of their brand.

Mr.Big There was but now McLaren has said that that is not happening. I think that's a good thing. McLaren should stick to super cars. Stick to what you do well, I say.

McLaren sets sales goal at 4,000 units a year

McLaren has announced its plan to increase sales over the next while, and unlike most other car companies, it doesn't involve any SUVs or crossovers. McLaren will instead launch a slew of sports cars starting with the entry-level P13 model.

The P13 will ditch the 650S' V8 in favor of a twin-turbocharged V6 mill. It will also be a bit less expensive than previous McLarens, coming in at $177,000.

McLaren hopes that the arrival of new models like the P13 will help it to achieve its goal of 4,000 cars per year by 2017. Right now the British automaker sells about 1,400 cars each year.

Do you think that McLaren will be able to hit its goal? Do you think that McLaren is wise to avoid the booming SUV and crossover markets?
